Marshall McLuhan's Counterblast
This latest publication from EGO is a long awaited redesign of the 1969 Marshall McLuhan classic, ‘COUNTERBLAST’. McLuhan’s title was a play on the word ‘BLAST’, the name given to a magazine designed by Wyndham Lewis in 1914 and the first publication ever to be set in heavy headline type. Just as ‘BLAST’ introduced a groundbreaking typographic approach in its day, ‘COUNTERBLAST’, which was more a manifesto than a book, embraced an equally radical design in its bid to draw attention to the effects of media on the human condition. 36 years later, EGO’s redesign of ‘COUNTERBLAST’ pushes the boundaries of communication to new extremes with typography that explodes off the pages. Set exclusively in one color metallic type, this latest edition is a new chapter in the history of communication at the edge, a must have for designers and McLuhan fans alike.
