| The Art of Being Slick |
|
| Los Angeles graffiti legend SLICK moved to L.A. from his native Hawaii in the 80’s to attend art school at Parsons and evade prosecution for graffiti. Art school quickly took a back seat to writing graffiti, and SLICK rose to prominence after a much-publicized battle with another LA graff heavyweight HEX. He soon received attention from galleries, collectors and museums and began his successful career as a designer partnering his t- shirt graphics with CONART to start his own line. The concept of what a graff writer could become was changed forever. Slick has recently channeled his energy and talent to computer modified graphics and toy design. His work has evolved to showcase his Hawaiian Chinese background depicting Chinese mythology and Buddhist icons. His first monograph contains examples of his unique writing style and wall pieces to his clothing line, graphic and gallery work providing an overview of an artist passionately dedicated to craft. |
