Mouse and Kat and the Evil One by Stuart Sharpe has been selected as one of the 5o best designed books for 2004 under the category of “Children’s Book”. The following excerpt is from the AIGA website (www.aiga.org):
After careful and considered review of more than 900 entries, the jury of “AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers of 2004 ” selected 50 books and 50 covers as examples of outstanding book and book cover design produced in 2004.
Our publication of the selections last year took a new turn in order to reach new audiences beyond the AIGA membership, and to assure that they become a part of an accessible historical record of notable graphic design. The National Design Archive on the internet was launched in December of 2004, containing each competition selection labeled with traditional caption information as well as a link to the designer’s website. This continues to expand the reach of the jury’s judgment to include students, educators, business, media and the public, as well as future audiences. Each piece is accessible through search engines on the web, along with other AIGA-mediated selections by the designer, regardless of when they were selected by AIGA.
AIGA is committed to finding the most effective means of bringing your work to the attention of designers and others for whom this piece is an exemplar of the craft and effect of good design. We are proud to be able to publish work in this context.
The jury’s selections will be mounted as a public exhibition scheduled to open at the AIGA National Design Center in New York in September 2005. In addition, the show will travel to AIGA chapters, student groups and galleries throughout the country during 2006.
